Make it YOUR year
There are many days where we all want to throw in the towel because results are slow, we are tired and just feel like we are not progressing. In 2017, your job is to not give up and to keep on pushing. Here are a few ways to stay motivated when you feel like giving up. The feeling will pass, I promise- just keep pushing!
- Don't compare yourself to others- Everyone starts somewhere, do not compare yourself to someone who has been working on themselves for one or two years. You will get there if you keep going & don't give up!
- Ditch the FAD DIET!- Just eat. Eat a well balanced diet. Carbs are good for you, protein is amazing for you and a bit of fat doesn't hurt you either. Food is energy, food will keep you going.
- Get rid of the Junk!- Throw away all of the foods that tempt you. You'll come home after a bad day and grab it- when you could just go to the gym, decompress and have a healthy meal. Replace your junk with easy and healthy options!
- Moderation is KEY- You're aloud to have foods you like and crave in moderation! When you're craving those delicious Doritos, grab a small bowl or handful- not the bag! You can have a cheat meal once per week as well, make sure it's a meal and not a whole day of junk.
- Get to the gym at least 3-4 days per week- You don't have to go 7 days a week when you're starting out. 3 to 4 days per week is well enough to see results within a few months. A mix between cardio and weight training will get you on a great path!
- Prep your meals & snacks- We are all busy, if you prepare a few meals for your busy days- you will be less likely to stop for fast food or buy junk food out of the vending machine. Any food made at home is 10x healthier than what you will get anywhere else!
- Whole Grains & Vegetables (less processed foods)- Ditch the white bread & switch to wheat. There are so many vitamins and minerals that are great for your body in whole grain foods. Fruits and vegetables are a great source of vitamins and minerals as well, less processed & More Natural foods! For the best nutrition and healthy living, look at the recommended serving plate to the right.
- Make a menu- Think about your week ahead. Which nights are crazy and which nights are calm, this will depend on what you'll make for dinner. Buy your groceries for the week by using a list of things you need to be successful!
- Don't be afraid to ask for help- Making sure you are eating the proper nutrition and training the correct way is very important in your journey to health and fitness. Do not be afraid to ask a personal trainer, dietitian or a friend for advice/help. It will help you so much in the long run. The more you know, the better the results!
- Get enough sleep- Sleep helps with everything! Strength, energy, metabolism, stress and even weight loss. It's best to get between 7 and 8 hours, sometimes I can use more. Listen to your body!
- Listen to your body- If you are craving something, eat it. If you are lacking energy- take a look at your diet and sleep schedule. If you feel tired or weak, it's ok to take a rest day!
Good luck!
